What is a tractor weight for?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The counterweight function of modern tractors<\/strong><\/h3>
\n

To enhance farmers\u2019 productivity, the weight and power of tractors are constantly increasing. However, when a loader or other equipment is hitched to it, to push, carry or tow large loads, the tractor can become unbalanced, impairing its motricity, reducing its efficiency and even making it dangerous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several solutions are available to drivers to counterbalance the tractor: wheel ballast weights and front or rear weights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The latter, also known as tractor counterweights, come in the form of a block made of heavy, dense material, such as cast iron or other metal. This provides it with a particularly large weight with a small footprint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The weight is attached in opposition to the equipment connected to the tractor, either at the front or rear, to ensure proper weight distribution. It acts as a balance to counter the imbalance in the tractor caused by its handling implements, thereby making the tractor easier to move and operate.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Which weight should you choose for a good counterweight?<\/strong><\/h3>

Be sure to consider the distribution of the total tractor weight, total equipment weight and axle loads when calculating the difference in weight between the front and rear. For implements mounted or semi-mounted on the front of the tractor, also take into account the load supported by the rear axle in order to assess the weight of the rear tractor weight required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, here are a few pointers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • The 400 and 600 kg weights can be used for equipment and loads of up to 8 tonnes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The 900 to 1,500 kg weights enable a working range of up to 12 tonnes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    If you are unsure about the size of the tractor weight that you need, our advice would be to use a Multimass-type modular weight. You can then select your most frequently used size in a year as your main weight, adding lighter weights as and when required.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

      Tractor weight or wheel weight: which to choose?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      At MX, we favour front and rear weights for the flexibility they offer when compared to wheel weights:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      • Ballasting can be configured as required, whereas with wheel weights the ballast is often permanent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
