How to choose your vineyard tractor.
Based on the width between the vines
An integral part of your vineyard equipment, the vineyard tractor should be selected on the basis of your needs and constraints.
Vineyard tractors are either high-clearance straddle models, i.e. elevated in order to pass over the rows, or in the form of a conventional agricultural model. The advantage of the high-clearance format is its large turning radius, which makes it easy to handle, narrow and robust.
Mini tractors, or compact tractors, are generally very popular because they facilitate quick and efficient work. Their width must be appropriate to that of the rows of vines.
Based on the area of the vineyard
The power of the tractor must be appropriate for the size of your vineyard and your specialist equipment.
For example, a tractor of 30 to 60 hp is suitable if your area does not exceed 5 hectares. Above this, you will need a tractor with more than 70 hp.
Finally, remember to take into account the outlook for your operation, with regard to both its surface area and the depreciation of your equipment. Furthermore, you should consider easy-to-use vineyard equipment and an energy-efficient tractor.
Choosing the right equipment for your vineyard
The specifics of the vineyard
Working in vineyards manually, or with ill-suited machinery, can be extremely difficult. The use of equipment specifically designed for working with vineyard crops makes the job much less arduous and, above all, more productive!
Your choice of vineyard equipment will depend not only on the nature of your land, but also on the characteristics of the vines: planting density, ease of pruning, vine height. Ideally, viticultural implements should be versatile, allowing them to perform a variety of tasks without wasting time removing equipment from the tractor.

Compatibility with viticultural implements
Good vineyard equipment should let you weed, work and fertilise your soil, prune your vines and also treat and protect your vine plantations.
To do this, your vineyard handling implements should be compatible with the following viticultural tools:
- The vineyard seed drill: this is the hopper support, designed to open the soil with cutting discs in order to deposit the sown seed at the required depth.
- The press roller: used to reclose the soil to maximise the seed’s contact with it.
- Roller crimpers, designed to lay and pinch green manures.
- Vineyard weeders, whose function is to remove inter-row weeds.
- Secateurs, for pruning vines, or vineyard shredders for dealing with pruning waste or vine shoots.
Viticultural handling equipment
MX has developed loaders and front linkages specifically designed for vineyard work. They have all the robustness and performance of MX handling implements, but are smaller in size.
In fact, MX vineyard loaders do not extend beyond the narrow profile of the tractor, allowing growers to work in cramped environments such as inbetween narrow rows of vines. As a result, all manoeuvring is possible without snagging on branches.
