Ranges:Weights & Bumpers
Attached to front or rear linkage arms, a weight carrier or a SETRA plate, MX tractor weights provide a reliable and comfortable counterweight for your field work and road travel. With a wide range of configurations and weighing between 250 and 2,300 kg, MX weights are compact and scalable for practicality and productivity.
What is a tractor weight for?
The counterweight function of modern tractors
To enhance farmers’ productivity, the weight and power of tractors are constantly increasing. However, when a loader or other equipment is hitched to it, to push, carry or tow large loads, the tractor can become unbalanced, impairing its motricity, reducing its efficiency and even making it dangerous.
Several solutions are available to drivers to counterbalance the tractor: wheel ballast weights and front or rear weights.
The latter, also known as tractor counterweights, come in the form of a block made of heavy, dense material, such as cast iron or other metal. This provides it with a particularly large weight with a small footprint.
The weight is attached in opposition to the equipment connected to the tractor, either at the front or rear, to ensure proper weight distribution. It acts as a balance to counter the imbalance in the tractor caused by its handling implements, thereby making the tractor easier to move and operate.
Which weight should you choose for a good counterweight?
Be sure to consider the distribution of the total tractor weight, total equipment weight and axle loads when calculating the difference in weight between the front and rear. For implements mounted or semi-mounted on the front of the tractor, also take into account the load supported by the rear axle in order to assess the weight of the rear tractor weight required.
In addition, here are a few pointers:
- The 400 and 600 kg weights can be used for equipment and loads of up to 8 tonnes.
- The 900 to 1,500 kg weights enable a working range of up to 12 tonnes.
If you are unsure about the size of the tractor weight that you need, our advice would be to use a Multimass-type modular weight. You can then select your most frequently used size in a year as your main weight, adding lighter weights as and when required.
The advantages of a tractor front or rear weight
The 5 benefits of using MX weights
- They are compatible with all linkage categories, both front and rear.
- We have designed our weights to be particularly compact, so that their size and positioning do not hinder your operations. Their ergonomic shape will not block the tractor’s headlamps or lights.
- Automatic hitching facilitates the weight attachment and requires no physical effort.
- Quick adjustment using 7 positions lets you modify the weight height. The ground clearance can thus be raised to provide you with access to the hitching points. This allows a flatbed or trailer to be connected directly to the tractor without the need to remove the weight.
- The flat base of our weights allows them to be placed on the ground and ensures their immobility, for user safety. A parking stand is also supplied for the additional 400 kg weights.

Tractor weight or wheel weight: which to choose?
At MX, we favour front and rear weights for the flexibility they offer when compared to wheel weights:
- Ballasting can be configured as required, whereas with wheel weights the ballast is often permanent.
- Installation and removal are quick, which helps productivity.
- Our modular weights let you adapt the size of the counterweight according to the intensity of your work and the material you want to transport.
- They are easy to fit on most tractors.
Wheel weights, however, are suitable for supplementing ballasting on steep, hilly and/or bumpy ground since they increase the tractor’s grip on the ground and prevent wheel slip.
The various types of tractor weight
The monoblock weight
Our 250 and 400 kg weights come with category 1 and 2 hitching points to perfectly fit with tractor front or rear linkages. Simple and effective, these compact weights are the preferred choice of green space professionals.
The modular weight
The Multimass Concept range of weights provides an exclusive, versatile and scalable ballasting system. A main weight is attached to your tractor, to which one or two additional weights can be added to increase weight or to allow material to be transported. The Multibox storage unit even has clever, innovative storage options to further increase your productivity.
This modular system is particularly appreciated by farmers who use a wide variety of equipment with their tractor.
